Homemade Air Freshener (For the Holidays!)

Around the holidays and winter, I want my home to smell extra nice. I love the smell of pumpkin, apples, pine, cinnamon, orange, and all of those wonderful holiday scents. Having a chemical-free home, however, I can’t purchase traditional candles and air fresheners as they contain artificial fragrance and other chemicals. I also don’t have the freedom to stay home and bake pies non-stop to get my house smelling the way I want so that means I need to get creative with making my home smell lovely.

I decided to take a stab at a homemade air freshener. This air freshener is made with three ingredients: baking soda, cinnamon essential oil and orange essential oil. Baking soda is slightly alkaline and it is said that it neutralizes odors. Some people use it in their refrigerators. I used to sprinkle it on cat litter and it seemed to help the scent.

You can make this homemade air freshener smell however you’d like by adding different essential oils. I love using blends of lavender, sage and lemon as well… the possibilities are endless! This particular one is for the holidays. Below is the recipe. This would make a great gift for the health-conscious individual, as well as some of these other healthy gift ideas. I hope you (or the recipient) enjoys!
