Hey friends and anyone who may be new to our blog! We are Jesse and Alyssa and three years ago, we had a mutual dream that we wanted to start a homestead. We wanted to leave the hustle and bustle of the city to return to a more simplistic way of living. Long story short, we did it, and we now have a 5-acre property in the country where we’re building our off grid homestead from scratch!
Last winter, let’s just say we had cabin fever from working inside our tiny cabin for months on end (we also transitioned our income to the internet so that we can work from anywhere) and we had this idea to make a Frozen parody video called “Do You Want to Start a Homestead?”
So us being the adventurous souls that we are, we decided to take a stab at it!
Here is the video… if you like it, help us out and give it a share, like, or even a re-pin on Pinterest!

Nice!!!! Once you get farther on the house, my vote would be, Mary poppins…chim chimney
That’s so funny… Jesse was cleaning the chimney and I was singing that song, and he’s never heard of it! I think we should make music videos a bi-yearly event. Chim Chimney would be great for the next one! We’ll need more dancers though and will need to choreograph a really cool dance ๐
That was fun to watch! Showed it to my wife and kids and they loved it too!
Alyssa has a beautiful voice, add singing to her resume’. Know you are planning for Spring & getting set to really rip on your barn, etc. Thank-you for the fun! Love to you both
Hey Elna, I definitely won’t add singing to my resume but thanks for the kind words, hehe! It’s not my favorite past time but sometimes if you want something done, you gotta get it done yourself! We are really looking forward to spring but if winter is slow then that’s okay too as we still have gobs of work to get done! Love you too and PS… our neighbor plowed our driveway for us and your reflectors survived! They are tough little buggers and I think have been hit with a tractor or large vehicle more than once!
This finally played for me today and it was worth the wait. Loved it. Glad you used the term Disney first-only it’s better! Best to you both on your venture!
Glad you loved the video! And thanks for the wishes!
Missed you at Christmas. Loved your video. Lynne loved it too, and is singing it around the house.
I wish I could have been there to say hello and meet Lynne! I heard that you have a new place in Big Bear that I need to check out ๐ You’re welcome up here with your RV at any time, but it’s quite the drive and not the best of ideas in winter!
Who’s idea was it to homestead ,really? I suspect it was Jesse’s but he can’t sing. God job Alyssa
Hahaha we should put a poll on the blog asking that question! I think we came to the conclusion that we wanted to start a homestead together (we both dreamed of the idea separately before we really knew one another) but Jesse is the driving force behind the move as he has many more skills than I do, and is less afraid of failure! If I did the voice-over singing for Jesse though that would’ve made the video awkward… lol
This has been my dream for years but as a single Mom it might be more difficult but still dreaming and planning. Just gotta find my dude that’ll have the same dream, lol. You guys are truly inspiring. Thank you.
Wow – the book we sent made it onto your video! Great video – I hadn’t heard the “Do you want to build a snowman song, so guess I’ll have to look for it.
Hey Linda… glad you caught it!! That book is really awesome, thanks so much, we can’t wait to try out some of the recipes! Now if only we had some sunshine… HAHAHA! At least we should get to cook a lot over summer ๐ Hope you and Donn had a great Christmas!
G’day from Down Under. Your adventure is truely inspiring. I’ve been debating taking the same leap into an off-the-grid life, myself. Well done. Rob.
You two are adorable! I love this! ๐
This was so cute guys!!! And yes girlfriend , you do have a beautiful voice. Better then some that are making way to much money lol. This video made me smile. I love the way you two work together so well. We will be doing the same here real soon and I can only hope e can have this much fun doing it. I can’t wait for the hubby to get home to show him this. He is going to get the biggest kick out of it. I also wanted to let you guys know out of all the homestead blogs you guys are my absolute favorite. I love the way you aren’t ashamed to show the bad with the good and all the goodie in between. Keep it up and I am looking forward to more great videos. I will hopefully have my own blog soon and I will be giving you guys big props when it’s up and going. Thanks for the smile and the love. You guys are the greatest. Keep warm and hug the kitties for us.
You guys are so sweet! Loved the video so much.. Thanks.
Best wishes for you, waiting patiently for the spring to break and you guys moving ahead with your journey.
Oh my god that was so cute, clever and funny! My man and I will be embarking on our own homestead journey this spring and find your site to be inspiring and informative. All the best to you both! ๐
Loved the video! It was so adorable! I imagined it was probably Jesse’s idea to homestead, but read your response to someone else. I bet your Marketing degree came in handy when making the video. I love reading and watching these blogs. I’m a bit of a “Princess” myself (think more of a “Jane Austen” girl/woman, so I could never hope to do anything like this (and single, almost 44). However, the way you two describe things step by step and include your reasoning behind it all makes it so intriguing. You are my new favorite “show” seeing as how I don’t have satellite TV right now and haven’t for almost 2 years. About eight years ago I made a transition from the city (lived in MD, worked in DC) to a rural area in northwestern PA, not quite as drastic as your transition, but I am loving it and prefer the community feel and slower pace of living. I hope you continue to be encouraged and continue your adventure. Also, I appreciate how you’re not afraid of failure, but embrace it as a learning experience (which is still enriching). I pray you continue to do well!
That’s so awesome Teanna! Yes, Jesse was the big push for us to make the jump, although we both want the simple life equally as bad – he is just more fearless than me and has the know-how of the more complicated stuff such as building and the foundation for the property. Good for you for making a transition! Are you close to Honesdale by any chance? I worked there at a girls’ camp one summer and it was fun! Wish I could have explored the area more! We’re glad you find some inspiration in our blog… yes, we can all continue to embrace learning and new experiences! Keep in touch, and best of luck to you as well!
Showed this to my wife and I thought it was really cool she thought it was cute Allysa definitely had fun and a very pretty voice you sing really well dear, it was so cool to see you guys in a little lighter format and having fun too.
We have also been starting our journey getting ready to go off grid which technically started almost 2 years ago we are learning MORE every day but we still haven’t found that perfect of land to purchase yet so we are in limbo at this time still living in the City we are from Bethlehem, Pa.
I am looking for land that can be used to build our home too but like I said we are still looking for that perfect land.
Omg your video is sooooo cute!!!!
